Anonymous asked: Is there any way to get a cephalopod necklace without winning the give away?
Yep, I guess quite a few people miss the link in that post but if you click it, or the etsy link on my blog page, it brings you to where I sell the little critters. (And as of a day or two ago I can now take credit card payments directly too if you don’t like/can’t use paypal.)
Bigass sketchbooks take forever to finish.
I used to do so much ink drawing.
cjtheoracle asked: For the giveaway, how will you be determining if the winner knows the difference between a jellyfish and an octopus? Though I'm kind of horrified that there are people who don't know!
last time I just asked them to write about it, and the time before I gave this quiz.
I think I’m going to use that quiz again, it’s too good not to.
Anonymous asked: i tried to color my clay with oil pastel and baked but didnt come out very nicely. noy as shiny glossy transparent as yours. if you dont mine me asking what kind of varnish do you use to glossify clay? thanks always. ill post a picture of my sonic when i'm done :D
You can use the glaze that should be in the store right beside the polymer clays, it makes it nice and shiny. You’re making a sonic? That’s adorable I can’t wait to see it.
this ask is from 6 months ago and I’m really sad that this anon didn’t get back to me with a picture of their sonic sculpture.
when I was a kid I made a sonic sculpture out of plasticine, it had a giant slab base and was held up by a straw. I was 9 I think. my mom was so proud she put it in the display/china cabinet with the porcelain figures and fine china.
Anonymous asked: Sorry if this has been asked already, but what sort of polymer clay do you use to make the cute little invertebrata? Is it some kind of translucent clay? And do you use coloured clay, or paint them afterwards? I'd love to see your process.
The only one that is painted afterwards is the nautilus, trying to make the stripes in clay just looks silly.
I talked about my materials here.
messy painting of a ghost slime lady in a tree.
Anonymous asked: What is "the tag viewer" you speak of? :D
it’s the best extension for tumblr, it adds a little icon to all posts so you can read all the tags - get it here: http://xkit.info/seven/download/
I made a bunch of new sea creatures so it’s time for another giveaway. The winner will receive a polymer clay sea creature necklace of their choosing! See all the choices in detail here.

Do you have alla prima 2 specifically or do you use the first one? :O
I only read the first one but the second looks better because there’s more stuff and it’s the same price.
Anonymous asked: Where did you learn to paint so well? Did you go to an art school or are you self-taught?
This book is so much more valuable than any painting class I ever took. I still have a lot of learning to do but that book, Craig Mullins’ notes (there’s a pdf floating around somewhere), and painting still lifes are by far the most useful resources I’ve come across.
Anonymous asked: who even care about jellyfish?????????? no one
my first anon hate and it’s more beautiful than I could have possibly imagined
I’m looking for some background music to listen to while I paint. some examples of the type of music I like are in my music tag, anyone care to share? maybe some soundtracks or something?
